This update to Fire improves compatibility with Tiger (10.4) systems, and fixes some problems with the following areas:
- Jabber now works on 10.4
- ICQ now handles non-numeric names
- Yahoo buddy status is now correct

NOTE!! We are aware of an issue where connecting to Jabber on 10.4 (tiger) systems results in a crash. We are currently working on a fix. In the meantime, 10.4 users will need to refrain from connecting to Jabber.
8 February 2005MSN Servers are Down
The MSN Servers are currently down. The problem you have with MSN connecting is not an issue with Fire, but with their servers. All MSN users are currently experiencing an outage.

Update: As of 0100 GMT, the MSN Messenger service is "stable and running".
23 January 2005Fire 1.5.1 Released!!!
The Fire team has released a minor update to Fire 1.5, the Instant Messenger application. Fire 1.5.1 is now available for free download.
Please note that Fire 1.5 and higher only support Mac OS 10.2 and above. Mac OS 10.1 users will need to continue to use Fire 1.0.4. This change was necessary in order to bring you the advanced user interface improvements in this latest version.
This update to improves compatibility with 10.2 systems, and fixes some problems with the following areas:
- MSN not working on 10.2
- Single Chat Window Mode unavailable
- Zero Height For Text entry area
- Jabber Buddies won't show as online
This release also includes a Czech localization. Other localized versions will be released just as soon as they are available.

Fire 1.5 Released!!!
The Fire team has released another major upgrade to the Fire Instant Messenger application. Fire 1.5 is now available for free download.
This release includes major enhancements to the Chat Windows user interface including the following:
- Tabbed Chatting in 3 different styles. This allows you to conserve screen real estate and have all your windows in one area.
- Styled Text Chats in 8 different styles. This allows you to see your text chats displayed in multiple formats, including baloons like iChat® or more formal styles. (This feature is only available if you have Safari installed on your computer.)
In addition, we have added support for Rendezvous messaging, allowing you to talk to any Fire or iChat user on your local network, without the need for a central server.
Please note that this release is in English only. Localized versions will be released just as soon as they are available.

Yahoo Login Issues
At this time Fire and many other third party IM clients are unable to connect to Yahoo. Yahoo made a change to their servers today which affected our ability to login. We are working to identify and solve this issue as quickly as possible.

UPDATE - 6/24 We have identified the fix thanks to some awesome help from the trillian team. That fix is being tested as we speak, and a 1.0.3 build should be available soon to get you back up and running with Yahoo.

The Fire team is pleased to announce the availability of Fire 1.0.2. Please note that we now have a different download for 10.1 and for 10.2 and later. Please download the appropriate disk image depending on which OS you are using.
This release addresses some common issues with 1.0.1 including blocking, stability issues with tooltips, email notifications, Jabber authentication, and Yahoo non-buddies. We also now have a Czech localization thanks to Frantisek Erbin.

This release addresses some common issues with 1.0 including Jabber SSL and stability fixes, an AIM crash fix, problems installing themes, and an issue which caused high CPU usage with Yahoo accounts.

Yahoo made some unannounced additional changes to their Yahoo! Messenger servers and Fire is not able to connect to them at this time. (You get a dialog box asking if you are sure you entered the correct username and password.)
We are working with the other members of the Open Source community who develop Yahoo! Messenger clients to resolve this issue, please be assured that resolving this issue is a top priority for all of us, and we are working to solve it as quickly as possible.

25 September 2003Yahoo tried blocking access to their network
Following MSN’s lead, Yahoo is blocking access to its network from all clients which use older versions of its protocol. We have made the changes necessary to continue working with Yahoo. (Thanks to the people of GAIM for figuring out that authentication.) As of September 24, 2003 you must be using Fire Version 0.32.f or greater be able to connect to the Yahoo network. Download the latest version here and you will continue to be able to chat with your Yahoo buddies using Fire.
29 August 2003MSN tried blocking access to their network
Citing security concerns, MSN has blocked access to its network from all clients which use older versions of its protocol, (including older versions of Fire). As of October 15, 2003 Fire Version 0.32.g is required if you wish to connect to the MSN network. Please read our FAQ about this change.
